We have decided that this summer is going to be an Active Summer and when I woke up this morning and saw the sun (for the first time in weeks) I decided to get an early start. Tanell had to work so she couldn’t make it, but that didn’t stop us from finding our 1st waterfall of the season.
Here are the kids at the trailhead…please notice that Kendall does not have a jacket on. Please also note that although i saw the sun this morning it quickly went away and we drove all the way down the Gorge in the pouring rain with Aiden saying “are we really going to hike in this weather?”. Of course we are…its an active summer (spring).
Let me be honest…I had to deal with a bit of selfeshness here. My initial instinct was to tell Kendall tough luck, you didn’t obey me when i said grab your jacket so you get to freeze. Of course i couldn’t really do that…not to my sweet girl. She got my coat…i got to brave the elements in a t-shirt. Teach me not to double check what the kids are wearing.
Aiden is fierce. No one can question that now.
We reached the waterfall after a short 1 mile or so hike. Up and down a windy path and straight into the windy valley with a beautiful waterfall.
At least it would have been beautiful if it had been 80 degrees out. Instead it was freezing cold. We got as close as we could bear (Aiden got a little closer than the rest of us), enjoyed the moment, and turned back for the warmth of home.
I’d say hike #1 was a complete success. It was an easy hike to make with 3 young kids. Even though we were cold, we all had a great time. All thats left now is to “Make Hiking a Habit”…which is our new Summer 09 slogan.
